Chiboos Farm New Machave

September 28, 2016
An awesome place is not good enough to describe it.  A privately owned farm which belongs to one of my very good friends is currently the main topic of discussion on the lips of many fishingfanatix enthusiasts.
We recently conducted a Survival activity for adults at the farm, and it was really great.  So I decided to book the whole family for a weekend getaway where I could test the fishing prospects....we were not disappointed.

St Lazarus Banks, Northern Mozambique

November 25, 2015

11 long months of dreaming, knot practice, casting practice, gym, gear prep, packing, unpacking and repacking finally came to an end on the 14th November. The day had finally arrived, months of excitement, peaking and crashing multiple times coupled with trying not to build expectations, and  then nervously watching the weather as we got closer to the time. We got the news that the week before us saw some ugly weather come through with some anglers having their trip cut a bit short but as p...

STEELPOORT MONSTERS!

May 3, 2015

On a trip to Nelspruit recently I was invited by Uncle Ismail Mia of Sollys Anglers Nelspruit, to join his son Abdurrahman Mia and his friend Ahmed Ismail on the boat at De Hoop Dam in Steelpoort.

We started out the day at 3:00am. I got my boys and my new brother in-law Abubakr ready, and we were off.  We reached the water at around 5:30am, after a long and winding road up and down the hills of Lydenburg.  The dam was beautiful to say the least, and I savoured the early morning atmosphere ...

MONSTER 20KG BARBEL CAUGHT AT BLOEMHOF!

April 13, 2015

Moe Bakhas and Wilson carry the monster
Ashraf Bakhas of Sivaya Motors in Randfontein caught this whopper of a barbel on the 18 September 2014
. He says he used a carp head and instead of taking the line in deep, he cast the line in very near to the shoreline.  Within 10 minutes the bait got picked up and a 45 minute battle took place.  Ashraf was fishing with a 14 ft rod fitted with a magnum centre pin reel. "It was like catching something big off the surf", said Bhakas about his experience.

Fishing Heaven - Madagascar part 2

November 25, 2014
Day 2
Travelled South only to find glassy flat water with no current. Had 1 or 2 follows but otherwise quiet. we decided to work back North. On the way found some birds and really enjoyed throwing a little spoon into the mix to the bonnies. They move so incredibly fast so it was key to be able to make long casts to them before they got spooked and disappeared. Day 2 also saw us get into some lovely sized bluefin kingies and the geets came to play later in the afternoon as well. We had to cut ...

Fishing Heaven - Madagascar

November 25, 2014

So got back a few days ago from an incredible week with Madagascar Fishing Adventures. After good on 2 years of waiting and planning, the day finally arrived. All the tackle prep and sleepless nights were worth it. Madagascar is an absolutely beautiful place, the people are friendly and the MFA set up just works.
I was travelling with a mate of mine from SA and we were to join 2 guys from the UK for the week. The plan was to fish around Sakatia Island and then South for the first few days, C...

GT MAGIC IN KOSI BAY

June 14, 2014

My annual trip to Kosi Bay is an event I start dreaming about months before the time. This year wasn’t any different. Weeks before the time I had already ordered the Windon leaders, Roosta poppers and slide traces. Ticked off all the necessary items on the check list and got more tackle just in case (tackle addict I confess)

We left Jozi at 05:00 and reached the Total garage in Kosi Bay 6.5 hours later. As soon as we got the necessary permits, we met up with the rest of the group and a...

King Carp from Frankfort

April 24, 2013
This King carp was caught on the 22/12/2012 on a private farm in Frankfort. Due to the extreme rain conditions experience in the December month, it cause a fast flow in the river making it very difficult to fish as the line was continously been pulled towards the flow of the river. This did not stop us from accomplishing our main objective for our trip. And extra weight was added to the trace and that was the end result. We caught a total of 26 fish, not mentioning the ones that did get away....
